Thelma Downing

Mary Thelmateen Downing, or Thelma as she was known by, left us on October 11, 2024 to be with the Lord. Thelma was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Thelma’s life began April 26, 1933 in Yell County, Arkansas. She was the youngest child born to Noah and Gladys Ward. The family came to California in the 1940’s. It was in California where Thelma met and married her husband Glen. They were married on November 7, 1949 and were together for nearly 55 years. They had two children,  Sandra Downing(Lindsay, Ca) and Dale Downing(Bakersfield, Ca), and they made Lindsay their home.
Thelma was a tremendously dedicated worker.  She retires from Lindsay Hospital after many years of service in the kitchen, rising to the position Lead Chef. You would find the Hospital dining room full of residents enjoying her amazing breakfasts and pies. Thelma enjoyed traveling, camping, especially to Pismo Beach, fishing and watching her beloved LA Dodgers.
Thelma is survived by her two children, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Viewing will be on Thursday October 24th from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at Webb Sanders & Smith Funeral Home, 163 S. Mirage, Lindsay, Ca.

Thelma will be laid to rest at the Lindsay-Strathmore cemetery on Friday October 25th at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow shortly after.
