Roger Johnston, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away in January 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. Born on December 2, 1966, in Bakersfield, California, Roger was the eldest of four children born to Donald and Janice Johnston.
Growing up in Arvin, Roger made his mark early, excelling in both football and wrestling at Arvin High School, where he graduated in 1984. After high school, he worked as a bus driver for the Lamont School District, while also doing drywall work on the side. However, Roger’s true career passion was as an HVAC technician, a role he dedicated himself to for many years at Lamont School. He retired from the district after a long and fulfilling career in HVAC, where he was well-respected for his expertise and work ethic.
Roger met Donna Moore in 1992, and the two married in February 1993. Together, they raised four children and shared 31 years and 11 months of love and companionship. Whether it was traveling on spontaneous road trips with Donna, working on his cherished car that he had for his father, or spending time with his grandsons, Roger’s life was centered around family. His joy came from being there for those he loved, often seen taking his grandkids to school or enjoying the simple pleasures of family life. Roger is preceded in death by his father, Donald Johnston. He is survived by his mother, Janice Johnston; his siblings, Kevin (Misty) Johnston, Mike Johnston, and Jill (Ryan) Charter; and his children, Victoria (Jett), Zachary, Kayla, and Paul. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Christopher, Amanda, Matthew, Andrew, Brooke, Ryder, Victor, Nicholas, Jessica, and his three grandchildren, Logan, Jackson, and Aaron.
Roger’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion to his family will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
