Michael McClure Obituary

It has been nearly a month since we lost Dad on May 7th, 2026.  He passed away at home with his loved ones at hand and in their arms.  In his 72 years on this earth, Michael Clifton McClure knew and impacted many people.  Despite his mischievous and often irreverent sense of humor, anyone who knew him could say that he was a righteous, caring, hard-working, self-reliant, and above all, honest, man.  He treated all people fairly, dealt with them honestly, and could look you in the eye every time because of it.  He loved and cared for his family for as long as he was able and raised his children with love, passing along these values.  He was a good man, and this world is better for having had him in it.

Dad was born June 17th, 1954, to parents Marguerite and James C. McClure, Jr.  This began a life full of mischief, pranks, jokes, and all-around good-natured fun, all done with his little signature smirk that all who knew him have witnessed.  Along with that side of his personality, Dad possessed an almost insatiable passion to read, study and learn about anything and everything that caught his interest.  If he wanted to know something, you would soon find him behind a sizeable stack of literature from the library.

He met Mom in the 4th grade, and it can be said without a doubt that his love was only for her, from then until his last day.  They were married in 1974.  He graduated from Whitworth College (now University) in Spokane, WA in 1977, and he and Mom had their three children Andrew, Bethany and Laura over the next eight years.  He worked in swimming pool construction while he earned his Master of Divinity (1982) from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.  He built and owned his own businesses for the next 30 years.  After that, he spent much of his time with Mom and his only granddaughter, Taylor.  In 2020, he experienced the first of multiple, small strokes that he dealt with until his passing.  In his final years he was cared for by Mom, along with three of the most wonderful caregivers anyone could hope to have in Glynda, Alphonso and Freddie, without whom we would not have had Dad with us as long as we did.

Dad is survived by his wife Susan, son Andrew McClure, daughter and son-in-law Bethany and Matt McCormick, daughter Laura McClure, granddaughter Taylor McClure, sister and brother-in-law Dr. Regina McClure and Michael Ayers, brother Scott McClure, and cousins Ruthie Heuer and Rod Burkett.

Despite issuing multiple instructions to his kids throughout his life, to “just throw me in a pine box in the backyard” once he was gone, we will still be holding a final service on 10am on Friday, June 12th at the Lindsay Museum & Gallery located at 165 N. Gale Hill Ave, Lindsay, CA 93274.  Like Dad, the dress code is casual, and plain, white t-shirts are welcome!  Adults only, please.
