Joanna Shaw Obituary

Joanna was born April 4, 1954, in Porterville, California and passed away suddenly after a short illness that she bravely fought, on February 5, 2025, in her Lindsay, California home surrounded by her family.

She married Larry Shaw in 1971 and became a mother to Alan, Kerrie, and Candy. She and Larry raised their family in Lindsay where she loved them and the many “extra kids” who came through the door.

Joanna had a very tender heart when it came to the elderly and found it natural to just take care of people.  From delivering medicines and food to hands on care, she always went above and beyond to help others.

In addition to caring for her family, she was a great neighbor, good friend, fun aunt, and was a valuable part of the family business at Bob’s Drive In. She also was employed by Pop’s Catering where she turned her customers into friends.  She spent countless volunteer hours selling Carnival Tickets for the Orange Blossom Festival and serving others through Tulare County Food Link. Joanna could literally repair anything from fixing a dryer to roofing a house. Her craftsmanship always exceeded the skill of many contractors. She could clean and fry fish and make biscuits and gravy that would be the envy of a prize-winning chef.

Joanna was preceded in death by her father Truitt Jackson, stepfather Irvon Woody, and a granddaughter.

She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 53 years Larry Shaw, her mother Lavada Woody, son Alan Shaw (Alicia) and daughters Kerrie Shaw and Candy Gonzalez, her sister Kathryn Kyle and stepsisters Brenda Jackson, Marsha Knight, and Linda Snapp.  Joanna was very proud of her 8 grandchildren Aaron (Heather), Madison, Bailey, Holly (Christian), Ezekiel “Zeke”, Kylee, Jacob, Nathan, and her great granddaughter Sophie.

A service to celebrate Joanna’s life will take place Saturday Feb 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm at the Lindsay Wellness Center 860 N Sequoia.  Internment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring her giving heart with a donation of your time or money, in Joanna’s name to Tulare County Food Link.  Online donations may be made at foodlinktc.org.
